Why It's a "Must-Go"

Luis Garavito, "La Bestia," finally died in prison in 2023. He confessed to killing nearly 200 boys. His death was long overdue. His burial location is not public, likely to prevent the angry mob that would surely assemble.

He died of cancer, which feels like a small amount of justice for the cancer he was to society. He's gone, and the world is instantly lighter.

The "Experience"

Relief. The knowledge that he is no longer breathing is the only experience you need. He has no grave to defile, but his memory is already rotting.

Why This Listing Exists

Luis Garavito, known as "La Bestia" (The Beast), was a Colombian serial killer and child rapist. He confessed to the torture, rape, and murder of 193 children, mostly boys, between 1992 and 1999.

His victims were often street children whom he lured with offers of money or drinks. He was sentenced to 1,853 years in prison, but Colombian law at the time limited the maximum sentence to 40 years.

Garavito died in a clinic in Valledupar on October 12, 2023, from multiple health issues including cancer. His death marked the end of one of the darkest chapters in criminal history.
