The "Butcher Baker" hunted his victims in the Alaskan wilderness like game. He died in prison, and his burial location is kept quiet. But the Knik River, where he hid many of his victims, stands as a testament to his cruelty.
You can't visit his grave, but you can visit the vast, cold landscape that eventually swallowed him up. It's a place where nature is the ultimate judge.
Freezing. It's Alaska. The cold air bites, just like the reality of what happened here. It's a place for somber reflection, and maybe a very quick bathroom break before you freeze.
Robert Hansen was an American serial killer who abducted, raped, and murdered at least 17 women in and around Anchorage, Alaska, between 1971 and 1983. He was known as the "Butcher Baker" because he was a mild-mannered baker by day.
Hansen would fly his victims out to remote areas of the Alaskan wilderness, release them, and then hunt them down with a rifle. He was a skilled hunter who treated human beings as trophies.
He was arrested in 1983 after a victim escaped and alerted the police. He confessed to the murders and led authorities to the gravesites of many of his victims.
Hansen died in prison in 2014. His final resting place is not public, denying him any notoriety in death while his victims are remembered by the community.
