Why It's a "Must-Go"

The "Vampire of Düsseldorf" was beheaded by guillotine. His head was mummified and is now in a museum in Wisconsin (seriously). So, you can't visit his grave, but you can technically visit his head if you're into that sort of thing.

For the purposes of this site, we consider his "grave" to be the spot where the blade fell. It's a metaphorical bathroom break on the concept of his existence.

The "Experience"

Disjointed. Literally. He's all over the place. It's hard to disrespect a man who is already a museum exhibit, but you can try.

Why This Listing Exists

Peter Kürten was a German serial killer known as the "Vampire of Düsseldorf" and the "Düsseldorf Monster." He committed a series of murders and sexual assaults between February and November 1929 in the city of Düsseldorf.

Kürten was known for his sadism and claimed to have drunk the blood of some of his victims. He surrendered to police in 1930 and was convicted of nine murders and seven attempted murders.

He was executed by guillotine in Cologne on July 2, 1931. His head was bisected and mummified for scientific study and is currently part of the collection at the Ripley's Believe It or Not! museum in Wisconsin Dells.
