Why This Listing Exists
Richard Ramirez, known as the "Night Stalker," was an American serial killer, rapist, and burglar. His crime spree took place in the Greater Los Angeles area and the San Francisco Bay Area from June 1984 until August 1985.
Ramirez was a self-proclaimed Satanist who displayed no remorse for his crimes. He used a variety of weapons and methods, creating a sense of panic across California. He was convicted of 13 counts of murder, 5 attempted murders, 11 sexual assaults, and 14 burglaries.
He was sentenced to death in 1989 and spent 23 years on death row at San Quentin State Prison. He died of complications from B-cell lymphoma in 2013, before his execution could be carried out.
Ramirez's body was unclaimed by family, reflecting the isolation he created through his monstrous actions. His cremation by the state ensured no pilgrimage site would ever exist for his followers.
