Why This Listing Exists
Peter Sutcliffe, known as the "Yorkshire Ripper," was a British serial killer who murdered 13 women and attempted to murder seven others between 1975 and 1980 in northern England.
Sutcliffe targeted women in red-light districts, attacking them with hammers, knives, and screwdrivers. His reign of terror caused widespread panic and led to one of the largest and most expensive police investigations in British history.
He claimed he was on a "mission from God" to kill prostitutes, a defense that was rejected at trial. He was convicted in 1981 and sentenced to 20 concurrent sentences of life imprisonment.
Sutcliffe died in prison on November 13, 2020, after contracting COVID-19 and refusing treatment. His ashes were scattered, denying him a grave that could become a focal point for either hatred or misguided fascination.
