Why It's a "Must-Go"

Ottis Toole, Henry Lee Lucas's partner in crime (and sometimes romance), is buried in the Florida State Prison Cemetery. Like Lucas, he was unclaimed. It seems nobody wanted to deal with the man who claimed to have killed Adam Walsh.

It's a humid, swampy resting place. The mosquitoes are probably the only things visiting him. It's a fittingly wretched spot for a wretched man.

The "Experience"

Sticky and uncomfortable. Florida heat combined with the aura of a maximum-security prison cemetery creates a unique ambiance of misery. 10/10 for atmosphere, 0/10 for comfort.

Why This Listing Exists

Ottis Toole was an American drifter and serial killer who was convicted of six counts of murder. He was also the accomplice of Henry Lee Lucas, and together they claimed to have committed hundreds of murders, though many of these confessions were later debunked.

Toole is perhaps most infamous for confessing to the murder of Adam Walsh, the son of John Walsh (host of America's Most Wanted). Although he recanted the confession, police later closed the case, naming Toole as the killer.

Toole died in prison of cirrhosis in 1996. He was buried in the Florida State Prison Cemetery in Starke, Florida, as no family members claimed his body.

His grave marks the end of a chaotic life filled with violence and arson, leaving behind a trail of unanswered questions.
