Get DirectionsFred West, the builder who turned his own home into a graveyard, took the coward's way out before he could be tried. His ashes were scattered at Barry Island, a popular seaside resort. It's a place of fun, ice cream, and rollercoasters, which is the exact opposite of what he deserves.
So, enjoy a day at the fair. Eat some chips. And know that you are having a better time than he ever will again. The joy of the living is the ultimate revenge against the dead who hated life.
Loud, colorful, and full of life. It's the anti-Fred West. The best way to disrespect him is to go there and be happy. And maybe drop a chip for the seagulls.
Fred West was a British serial killer who, along with his wife Rose West, committed at least 12 murders between 1967 and 1987 in Gloucestershire. The majority of the victims were young women, including their own family members.
The Wests tortured and murdered their victims in their home at 25 Cromwell Street in Gloucester, burying the bodies in the cellar and garden. The house became known as the "House of Horrors."
Fred West was charged with 12 murders but committed suicide in his prison cell on January 1, 1995, before he could face trial. His house was demolished to prevent it from becoming a macabre tourist attraction.
His ashes were scattered at Barry Island, a place he ostensibly enjoyed, but the act ensures there is no grave for neo-Nazis or morbid sightseers to visit. His legacy is one of unspeakable cruelty hidden behind a mundane domestic facade.
